Programs

Chess on the Hill offers a range of programs designed to meet students where they are — from first-time players to future state champions. We use chess to teach sound decision-making, persistence, emotional regulation, and problem-solving skills for students to succeed in school and in life through the following programs:
After School Clubs
Camps
Private Lessons
Chess Elective Classes
Chess Residencies
After School Clubs

After School Clubs consist of weekly chess sessions held on-site at partner schools and local libraries in the area. Currently we teach chess in approximately seven schools and two libraries.
Each school or library that has an after-school club is assigned one trained Chess on the Hill instructor. We are proud to give students a fun, low-pressure introduction to the game and a chance to build community with fellow players.
Camps

Camps offer students opportunities to have fun and hone their chess skills with their peers! Multi-day chess camps successfully combine instruction, tournament play, and games.
Chess on the Hill hosts camps in community-based organization sites such as local libraries or Sand Springs in the Williamstown area. Camps serve as a great program for students looking to level up over school breaks or summer.
Private Lessons

Private Lessons consist of one-on-one coaching tailored to each student’s level and goals, from beginners learning the rules to competitive players preparing for tournaments.
Chess Elective Classes

In-school Chess Elective Courses bring chess into the regular curriculum as part of the students’ typical school day. These courses are able to teach students’ critical thinking and strategic planning as core academic skills.
This is important as these are transferrable skills that can help students succeed in both school and their personal lives!
Chess Residencies

Chess Residencies are extended in-school programs where Chess on the Hill instructors’ partner with schools over a full term or year to build a lasting chess program from the ground up.
We are incredibly grateful for the support and enthusiasm our local community has shown us. Many of our partner schools have invited us to continue teaching beyond our initial programs, and we are always excited to return. As long as you’ll have us, we’re committed to helping your school’s chess community grow and thrive!
